      Hello Robert,

good to know that you discuss this important point with your engineer. At first we need to know which Sunny Boy you want to use exactly, we have a SB3600TL-20. SB3600Tl-21 and a SB3600SE-10 you can check that by yourself at the label or send us the serial number if you already have the inverter.

Generally SMA rank all his device to the right IP Code, most of our inverters have the IP65 which are for outdoor use here the explanation:
6 (first number) = Dust tight/ NO ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight)
5 (second number) = Water jets/ Water projected by nozzle (6.3mm) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.

Please notice that the SB3600SE-10 is an integrated storage system, which is for indoor use concerning the battery.

I hope that is helpful for you and can choose the right SMA inverter for your local environment.

      All the best
