Sunny Perspectives for Solar Energy in Latin America

Sunny Perspectives for Solar Energy in Latin America

Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, El Salvador, Panama, Ecuador and Colombia – all those are sunny countries with a rich photovoltaics potential that remains mainly untapped. This is going to change: From November 26 – 30, SMA was hosting wholesalers from these countries at the Solar Academy. Through seminars, they became familiar with SMA’s product line and learnt about new PV markets.

César Villalta, a technical trainer at the Solar Academy, provided the guests with important facts about PV plant monitoring technology, explained communications products such as Sunny Design, and shared information about plant planning for island systems using the Off-Grid Configurator – and that in the native language of the visitors, Spanish. The Latin American participants, some 20 in all, were being very well prepared to meet the challenges of new PV markets – such as those in their respective countries – and to pass on what they’ve learned to local plant planners and installers.

“Given that the amount of solar energy generated in Mexico is expected to grow from its current 44 megawatts to as much as 2,000 megawatts over the next eight years, it is crucial to strengthen photovoltaics in Central America,” states Jorge Luis Torres Carrillo, sales engineer in Sales New Markets. With colleagues he worked to organize the event and was looking after the guests during their five-day stay.

We have interviewed some of the visitors about the potential and the challenges of their PV markets.

Hi, I am writing from Argentina, I have been at a presentation of SMA in the GreenAR 2013, and like to know if there are chances to have your seminars and any specific training here.

It would be really interesting for all of us, the installers.

    Any chance?

    Thanks a lot,

SMA should promote businesses of PV energy in Rio de Janeiro state ( Rio de Janeiro, Búzios, Cabo Frio, Macaé, Campos and so on) and, of course, in the northeast of Brazil. Indeed, trainning of persons to install the system in houses and hotels must be enhanced. I believe in the financing the system by government banks (CEF, Banco do Brasil, BNB and BNDES)too.
The best idea is to start a SMA industry in the state of Rio de Janeiro. I suggest Cabo Frio region.

We in the South of Brazil are also starting with pohotovoltaic energy as a new source for our costumers, we participated in the last edition of Expodireto and noticed a overwelming search for our functional instalation of a SunnyBoy3.000 and two Skystream windtrubines, that indicates we entered in the right track of energy. The futures is now with SMA ! Udo Werner Schmiedt Eng.Agr.M.Sc. udwesc@gmail.com http://www.tropicalgardencenter.blogspot.com

Today I am calling Corporate to inform them of 2 Giga-PV projects and
1 Hybrid Solution Project for SMA here in Mexico with generous funding.
Absolutely the finest web site presentation I have seen for quite some time.
Looking forward to a long and profitable relation with SMA.
