Snow paradise: Off to the Bilsteinturm tower.
Fitting with the cold snap predicted to head our way, I have the perfect idea for a weekend excursion for you: whoever would like to wander through the deep snow in the nature preserve park or missed the chance to take a cross-skiing trip to Austria this year can make up for it now.
Where: In the Meißner-Kaufunger forest nature preserve, approximately 15-20 minutes away from Kassel by car.
Destination: The Bilstein, with an elevation of 641 meters, is the second highest mountain in the Kaufunger forest. With good visibility conditions, you can enjoy a breathtaking view from the Bilsteinturm tower over the Werratal valley, Eschwege, Göttingen, Kassel, Meißner all the way to the Brocken mountain. There, you can also find a cozy and quaint mountain chalet restaurant, where you can replenish those calories you burned. (Opening hours: November – March Sat. & Sun. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., April – October Tue. to Sun. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
The entire area is completely covered with a lot of snow right now, while there is not a single snowflake to be seen anywhere in Kassel.
P.S.: There is also something special awaiting avid mountain bikers. The forest is riddled with various single trails. You are guaranteed to have fun. But take a look for yourself…
