Intersolar 2014: SMA Storage Solutions in the Spotlight

From June 4-6, 2014, the world’s largest trade show for the solar industry, Intersolar Europe, will once again open its doors. We spoke to SMA Managing Board member Marko Werner for a sneak preview on what we can expect at the SMA booth.

Marco, what’s new from SMA at Intersolar?

The main focus at our booth will be on our innovative storage solutions, which offer private households and commercial operations greater independence in their use of energy. A particular highlight will undoubtedly be “Intelligent energy management with SMA Smart Home” and our new solution, the now available Sunny Boy Smart Energy with integrated storage. Additional innovations we’ll be introducing are the more powerful Sunny Tripower generation with 20 and 25 kW, an improved Sunny Island for power classes from 2 to 13 kW, and a new, modular service concept that offers our customers many advantages.

We are especially looking forward to presenting our SMA Utility Power System, as a turnkey system solution as well as in flexible packages. This complete system meets all the demands of large-scale PV power plants.

Of course, the Sunny Central Storage, our new megawatt-class battery inverter for reliable grid integration, will take center stage. As a finalist for the Intersolar Award 2014, our Fuel Save Solution for photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems—an alternative to pure diesel power generation—will certainly also attract considerable attention. Whatever their interest, visitors to the SMA booth will find many interesting new solutions to explore.

What can our customers expect in the way of special events?

On the first day of the exhibition, we are hosting PV Power@Night, an exclusive networking evening for our customers. This international event, to which we also invite decision-makers from a wide range of fields, was very well received at the two previous Intersolar exhibitions. Another popular event, traditionally held on the second night, is our forum for technicians, which offers a pleasant setting for personal contact and open dialogue.

What are you looking forward to?

I always have a busy schedule full of appointments with our international customers directly at the booth. I really look forward to seeing them, talking about markets, developments and our joint projects for the future. I have frequent telephone conversations with many of these business partners, but I only see them once a year, and so I find these personal meetings during Intersolar especially valuable.

Talking with many of the technicians who install our products on a daily basis gives me an opportunity to ask about their experiences on the job, which is extremely interesting as well as instructive. These personal conversations are a great way to learn about what the people who use our products need. And I’m always pleased to gain different perspectives.

Thank you for the interview, Marko. Good luck at Intersolar!

We look forward to your visit to the SMA booth B2.210. For those who can’t make it to Munich, you are welcome to follow our trade show activities on our blog and on Twitter. More information can be found in our press release!
