2012 SMA Ski Trip to Hintertux
For the 10th time, the annual week-long SMA ski trip took place from March 10-17. Along for the ride were our three 'Jubilare', Iris, Sophie and Jürgen. Unfortunately, our mixed troop of SMA skiers was smaller this year than last, due to illness and work-related conflicts.
Off to the Slopes
All in a good mood, our bus set off towards Austria at 8:00 in the morning on March 10. 9.5 hours later, we finally reached our destination, Hintertux im Zillertal. A great dinner and our first night in the mountains later, and we started enjoying the slopes the next morning at 9:00 (despite the fog). The first day was a bit mixed as far as the weather goes, but our second day was filled with clear blue skies and perfect skiing conditions.
The Kamikazi gang got to play on the Harakiri slope, with its 78% incline, while the rest of us played it safe on the blue and red slopes. Thanks to the mandatory helmet law, there were no injuries to report.
Après Ski and a Biathlon
It wasn't too uncommon for the older skiers to go to the disco at night while the young ones preferred going to bed. A highlight of the week was the snow-shoe biathlon organized by one of the prominent hotels in the area. We only just lost out to the overall winner on the home stretch.Next year we will select a new ski destination, which will hopefully have slopes that are just as nice. In order to attract more SMA employees to join us, we'll put less emphasis on wellness, which will hopefully make next year's trip more interesting and more „affordable“ 🙂
We are already looking forward to our 2013 ski tour and hope to see many old and new ski-enthusiast colleagues.
